Soy Wax Batiks
It is a glorious day out there today in New England! They don't get much better than this! A great day to hang my freshly batiked fabric out on the line in the sun! It's my first batch of the season. As usual I used soy wax and 2 different Pro Chem MX blues. One, a cerulean blue and the other, an alpine blue, although they are very similar. Some will be overdyed soon, some may be painted over...who knows!

I love these--the cerulean blue is one of my favorite MX dyes. Did you use a brush to get the shapes, or did you stamp them on? Just asking because I usually stamp using things like egg cartons, carrots, pool noodles, etc. My last blog post about it was at: http://periwinklequilts.blogspot.com/2013/04/finally-feeling-creative-again.html
ReplyDeleteYep, it can be addictive!
ReplyDeleteLaura, I love the ones you did! I used a brush for some and I stamped the circles with the bottom of a wooden salt grinder that had otherwise rusted out, and also a piece of pvc pipe. One latge leaf is a handmade job using cork that I carved out, and another leafy shape was a handcarved soft block. I'll show them in better pics when I'm finished playing with them.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love all the blue shades. I have never dyed my fabrics. This seems so cool!
ReplyDeleteOh you should try it! Then, like me, you'll develop yet another obsession!
ReplyDeleteA response to my blog post on soy wax on screens:
ReplyDeleteThe nice thing is the images are stable unlike gel glue or paste yet are easily removed from the screen when you are done.

I am definitely going to try this...just has to wait a bit. I love what you did with the circles!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful. At first I thought they might be indigo (I can get a light color from the pot if it's getting exhausted), but it's just too bright and beautiful. 8-] Love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ellen! I'm so tired of the rain here. Waiting for some sunny days to go outdoors to do some more!
