Ok, now I'm finished! I came upon some good sized crates that I used to move and reorganized my printing area and store quite a bit of stuff in 8 new cubbies!
It's nice and high so I can easily use a baren to transfer my inked plate onto paper or my little "Big Shot" that you see all the way to the right with pretty pink handles. This is a recent addition to my tool chest and have been experimenting quite a bit with...more to come about that in an upcoming post. Or I can use my very old Speedball Press, all the way to the left, that I hope to replace with a newer version sometime soon.
And this is behind me in the same little area where I now have a nice clean spot to store flat (just under the table) and cut paper! I was really surprised at how much paper I actually have on hand - I just had it in so many different places that I forgot I had some of it!
It won't make it in any of Interweave's Studio magazines but it works for me!
I know it's a GREAT feeling to have created (clean) order out of mess. Now you can put your hand on what you need, and have space to make more wonderful art of all kinds!
ReplyDeleteThat's the idea! I get so frustrated if I can't find things! You know, it's been 2 years since I moved in here. It takes awhile to really know how you want to be set up to work comfortably. It was time!

ReplyDeleteI have recently side tracked into other art mediums and my dream is to have a large space with "work spaces" similar to an office where everyone has a "cubicle dedicated to a particular reason" :-) can only dream at this point...instead of a hotch potch of spaces in various rooms - not connected!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think that's the most difficult part of being a mixed media artist! The stuff is everywhere but if you can't put your fingers on what you need there's not much sense in having it. I haven't had this much space in a long time so I'm really appreciating it again! I love your idea of it all being in one place. This going up and down stairs is a pain but it's good exercize!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like your studio better than anything I've seen. Those "studio" issues kind of make me feel claustrophic and/or over stimulated (too much visual input). My own studio is a wreck, but the mess becomes just one more reason to procrastinate. Your studio actually looks like one that is conducive to working!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I must have a touch of ADD because I get really frustrated if I can't find my stuff when I need it so I try my best to keep it organized.
ReplyDeleteYour studio looks great! Do you use your Big Shot as a press for printing? I have been planning to try mine for thatif I can get the heights right and not break the machine!
ReplyDeleteYes, although it's limited to what will fit with that size and it has to be either wood or linoleum block - the soft block is too soft to work, although I have tried one piece of McLain's Gomuban successfully. I've just started using it and I love it. It saves on my arthritic hands and produces a nice print complete with embossing. You do have to play with the layering before you start each print.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read more about your Big Shot experiences.
